On Monday, July 13, 2026, the Government of Tanzania, through the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries (MLF), officially launched the World Aquaculture Tanzania 2026 Conference (WA26T). This milestone event serves to build strong national and international momentum, mobilizing active participation from government institutions, the private sector, development partners, academia, and key industry stakeholders. WA26T is scheduled to take place in Dar es Salaam from December 1 to 4, 2026.

The launch ceremony, held at the Tanzania Fisheries Corporation (TAFICO) premises, was officiated by the Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Honorable Ambassador Dr. Bashiru Ally Kakurwa (MP), alongside high-level delegates from the Ministry. The event featured the signing of the official hosting agreement, which outlines the collaborative roles and responsibilities of both the World Aquaculture Society (WAS) and the MLF. Additionally, organizers unveiled the conference theme, branding, organizational arrangements, and partnership opportunities, further establishing Tanzania as a premier destination for international events and sustainable Blue Economy development.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from the MLF, local universities, research institutions, WAS members, media, and industry bodies, including the Aquaculture Association of Tanzania (AAT). Virtual solidarity statements were also delivered by the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and Aller Aqua, the official Corporate Sponsor of the WAS African Chapter.

Fostering Global Partnerships for Sustainable Aquaculture

The WAS World Aquaculture Conferences represent the premier annual gatherings for aquaculture scientists, industry leaders, policymakers, investors, and development partners globally. Organized in collaboration with host nations, these conferences serve as the leading global platforms to share scientific knowledge, showcase commercial innovations, and foster strategic partnerships to advance sustainable aquaculture development.

In recognition of Tanzania’s rapid growth in the aquaculture sector and its firm commitment to the Blue Economy, WAS selected the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries to host the WA26T Conference at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) under the theme “Aquaculture Driving Blue Transformation”.

Positioning East Africa at the Center of the Blue Economy

The conference is projected to attract over 2,000 delegates from more than 100 countries, positioning Tanzania at the forefront of global discussions on food security, aquatic food systems, and technological innovation. The program will feature keynote addresses from international experts, scientific presentations, policy dialogues, B2B networking, and a major international commercial exhibition.

The launch also marked the official release of the Aquatic Foods Recipe Book – Tanzania, developed by the government in collaboration with WorldFish and Aquatic BioSolutions Tanzania (ABiST) under the SADC region’s PROFISHBLUE program. This publication aims to promote healthy aquatic food consumption, strengthen value chains, and create new market opportunities.

WAS cordially invites sponsors, exhibitors, and presenters to register for WA26T. The event is hosted by the United Republic of Tanzania through the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries and the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy (Zanzibar), with support from AUDA-NEPAD and WAS Global Premium Sponsors.

For registration, exhibition booking, and abstract submissions, visit the official WA26T Portal or contact the Secretariat at africanchapter@was.org.
