Puerto Varas – In exactly two months, the aquaculture innovation ecosystem of Latin America and Europe will meet again in Chile to participate in the International Conference on Innovation in Aquaculture, InnAqua 2025.

From September 2nd to 4th, the Los Lagos region will bring together entrepreneurs, students, academics, technicians, professionals, and executives from public and private sector companies and institutions, both Chilean and foreign, who are interested in collaborative innovation in the aquaculture sector.

Organized by the Aquaculture Innovation Club of Chile and its associates, InnAqua will feature 25 speakers who will address, in nine thematic panels, subjects such as sustainability in aquaculture, renewable energies, energy efficiency, carbon footprint reduction, decarbonization, circular economy, innovation, and shared social value. It will also include a poster session and an exhibition with 25 stands from companies that are applying innovation in the development of their products and services. The activities will be divided between the Centro de Vinculación Ciudad Puerto of Empormontt, in Puerto Montt, and the Conference Center of the Hotel Enjoy, in Puerto Varas.

Third Edition of the Conference

Adolfo Alvial, executive director of the Aquaculture Innovation Club and general coordinator of InnAqua 2025, highlights that this third edition of the conference has generated great interest, both nationally and abroad, and already has the solid commitment of the main salmon and trout producing companies and suppliers in the sector, as well as aquaculture associations and various public agencies.

For us, the participation and support is very gratifying, especially from outstanding producing and supplying companies in the industry, such as Salmofood, which once again supports us, in addition to the salmon farms AquaChile, Mowi Chile, Blumar, and Cermaq Chile, which have been a very relevant support and encouragement in this challenge,” he says.

In this regard, Sady Delgado, CEO of AquaChile, explains that “InnAqua is a relevant instance to share experiences and advance a common vision for the future of aquaculture. At AquaChile, we are convinced that innovation is a concrete tool to improve the efficiency of our operations, reduce our impact, and contribute to a more sustainable industry. Spaces like this allow for dialogue among industry players, learning about solutions that are already being applied in other sectors, and reinforcing our commitment to world-class aquaculture and salmon farming.”

For his part, the general manager of Cermaq Chile, Joachim Wessel, maintains that his company “firmly believes that the future of the industry is built with knowledge, technology, and, above all, with joint work. That is why we are happy to participate in InnAqua 2025, the main aquaculture innovation meeting in Latin America. This conference, promoted by regional and local authorities, brings together the main players in the sector and drives collaboration between companies, entrepreneurs, public and private institutions, with a common goal: to move towards a more sustainable, innovative, and collaborative aquaculture.”

International Impact

ProChile, the Regional Government of Los Lagos, the Innova Puerto Montt Plan, and the Illustrious Municipality of Puerto Montt, among other public bodies, have also joined InnAqua 2025, demonstrating with their support the importance they place on this activity, which has managed to cross the country’s borders.

“I have just returned from a trip where I was able to see the interest that exists in participating in InnAqua from institutions and various personalities in Spain and other countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa who attended the AquaFuture congress. I also saw a good reception in Japan, where we met with producers, suppliers, and fisheries and aquaculture organizations, and the main Japanese companies linked to this activity, some of which are present in Chile,” explains Adolfo Alvial.

“All that international interest has translated into a local impact that has motivated not only the salmon industry, but also the emerging aquaculture industry in the north and center of the country, as well as that of other Latin American nations, including Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and Mexico, along with the United States and Canada,” he highlights.

The general coordinator of InnAqua 2025 extended an invitation, both to the local public and to foreign delegations, to register soon. He states that “more and more people recognize innovation as a fundamental tool to achieve a more competitive and sustainable aquaculture; therefore, our attendance projections for this third edition are very high.”
