Stavanger, Norway.- Finnøy has been a case study in the AquaAccept project. A community meeting was held to report findings from national as well as local surveys and to reconnect with the community.
The AquaAccept team was pleased to hold its sequel community meeting in Finnøy Kommune on Tuesday, January 23rd at the local library. Finnøy has been a case study in the AquaAccept project, part of which focusses on investigating attitudes toward aquaculture in Norway and how various activities along the coast interact with one another.
This meeting was an opportunity to reconnect with the community and to report findings from surveys conducted at the national and local levels as well as a series of group interviews with local stakeholders. – The community and Finnøy Kommune have been interested to hear these results, in particular to better inform local planning processes. The presentation of the results was followed by a discussion, which touched on issues of jurisdiction and ownership, developing local capacity, and appropriate regulations. The attendees also showed interest in the SEAGRID mapping application being developed for the visualisation and overlaying of multiple uses of coastal areas as a decision making tool.
We were also very pleased to be able to display a number of drawings and comments from local school children as part of a new initiative, Kysthistorier, which endeavours to collect images and stories from the public to highlight people’s personal connections to the ocean and coastal environments in Norway.
