On the 12th of April, Hendrix Genetics and Coraqua signed a strategic partnership, securing access for Peruvian farmers to high health, high quality Troutlodge eggs. By growing elite Troutlodge stocks from egg to mature broodstock in Chichillapi, the eggs will be grown their entire life cycle in the unique conditions of the high Andean area. The first domestically grown eggs will be available to Peruvian farmers by November 2024.

“In the last two years, we’ve seen Troutlodge eggs becoming even more popular in demand with the increased resistance to Bacterial Cold Water Disease (BCWD) and with the increasing supply difficulties that have been seen from several producing countries. This next step in our long lasting cooperation with Coraqua is a great step forward to increase the availability of our eggs to Rainbow Trout farmers worldwide, and shows our commitment to be at the forefront of a successful and thriving Trout industry globally,” said Keith Drynan, General Manager, Troutlodge.

“We are leaders in the import of Trout eggs, production of high quality fry and import of equipment for the aquaculture sector in Peru. We are delighted to mark this milestone with entering the strategic partnership with Troutlodge which will bring the first domestically produced eggs to the market in 2024; the year where we celebrate our 13th anniversary,” said Jesus Jaliri Chambilla, General Manager of Coraqua.

“Our mission has always been to create development opportunities for our collaborators and local communities in the high Andean area of Peru, by providing rainbow trout roe and fry of excellent quality and offering pre and post sales advice to our customers. With Troutlodge broodstock now being grown and spawned in our unique environment, our customers will have access to the high health, high quality trout eggs they know from Troutlodge, with the added benefit of already being acclimatized to the environmental conditions of Peruvian high Andean during their whole life cycle,” said Rosa Huasasquiche Perez, Commercial Manager of Coraqua.

The strategy for domestic production in key markets has been accelerated by Hendrix Genetics in recent years. The high health and biosecure breeding programs have established Hendrix Genetics as a supplier of choice for salmon, trout and shrimp farmers worldwide. With the increasing disruptions in international and intercontinental logistics, Hendrix Genetics has responded by setting up local grow out operations for its Kona Bay shrimp brand in Ecuador, Indonesia and India. The strategic partnership with Coraqua follows the same strategy but is the first of its kind for Troutlodge. Trout farmers in Peru will benefit from the increased access to local high-quality products and customer service; but also customers in other Troutlodge markets will benefit with increasing capacity for production. Because of increasing demand, Troutlodge is currently operating on a wait list for new customers, which will be relieved as the new operations in Peru come online.
