Promote domestic consumption of tra fish products

Vietnam.- As one of the main fishery products of the Mekong Delta and around the world, tra fish of Viet Nam has been presented in more than 140 markets, becoming the main dish of many families in many countries. On the contrary, in the domestic market, products from trafish are quite new, because most businesses only focus on export market. However, these markets are putting up many barriers currently. Therefore, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has determined that domestic market needs to be focus on development by launching many promotion activities to promote image of trafish product inside the country.

MARD assigned Directorate of Fishery to form a public-private partnership group in the fisheries sector, which coordinates with many stakeholders such as Viet Nam Pangasius Association, Viet Nam Fisheries Society, Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), some non-governmental organizations to connect the producers, processors and consumers. At the same time, it is associated with supermarkets and restaurants in order to step by step bring aquatic products, especially tra fish products to localpeople.

A rich nutrient food

Tra fish is a very rich nutrient seafood product which are produced and processed under international certification.Tra fish is good for healthas it has a high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids, which is good for heart and diabetes. Some studies have shown that Tra fish have nutritional value as good as that of deep – sea fish. Besides, fat of tra fish is full of natural nutrients such as omega 3/6/9 fatty acid, EPA, DHA, vitaminA and vitaminE as well as essential trace minerals for the body.

Diverse products

Tra fish products are rich in types fromtra fish fillet and portion cut toprocessed items such as fried tra fish rolled with broccoli, tra fish rolled with sauce, tomato, mango, or frozen breaded tra fish fillets. These products have a reasonable price while being convenient for cooking, thus attract the attention of the majority of consumers.

At present, to meet the demand for food safety, 100 percent of tra fish products are sold in supermarkets and convenience stores which is traceable and quality controlled byMARD.
