Preparations for the upcoming 3rd Annual International Conference and Exposition of the African Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society (AFRAQ2024), were given a boost last week following signature of the hosting agreement by the National Institute of Marine Sciences and Technologies (INSTM), on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, Tunisia. This special gesture means the Government of Tunisia and its associated institutions are fully committed to collaborate with WAS in ensuring smooth organisation of the event.

In addition to government support, key locally based aquaculture companies in Tunisia have expressed their support to the event by offering AFRAQ24 guests an opportunity to tour their offshore seabream and seabass facilities in the Mediterranean. These companies are directly linked to AFRAQ24’s Gold Sponsor, Nutrifish, that specialises in the processing and distribution of commercial aquafeeds. Nutrifish has a state-of-the-art aquafeeds mills with capacity of up to 30,000 tonnes per year. These and several other companies are expected to feature at an organised pavilion within AFRAQ24 Exhibition.

The conference, which is themed “Blue Farming: New Horizons for Economic Growth”, is expected to attract over a thousand attendees from Africa and across the globe. It will highlight some of the latest aquaculture research, innovations and investments to underpin continued growth of the aquaculture sector in Africa. The event will comprise of a scientific forum (oral and poster presentations), trade exhibition, industry forums, satellite workshops, student events, aquaculture and farm tours and other features.

Registrations and submission of abstracts are still open. All conference details will be updated on the event page on https://www.was.org/Meeting/code/AFRAQ24. For all enquiries on AFRAQ24 contact worldaqua@was.org or africanchapter@was.org. For more information on the exhibition and sponsorship, please contact mario@marevent.com.
