Nofima’s Fish Health Department focuses on preventive fish health and has in recent years worked on the development of good health indicators that can be used in the aquaculture industry. We are experiencing an increasing demand for expertise in this area and are therefore announcing a research position. The Fish Health Department has work locations in both Ås and Tromsø.
About the position
Our approach to fish health ranges from visual pathology and behaviour, to genes and protein expression. We use both traditional and modern platforms and have developed advanced methods that contribute to an increased understanding of defence mechanisms in fish. This short film will give you an idea of the kind of work we do.
Health and welfare related challenges for farmed fish have often multifactorial causes. Therefore, it is important for us to utilise the expertise that can be found in other departments in the Aquaculture division. You will work in teams within the department but will also be involved in collaboration that takes place across all the departments in the division.
Duties
Project participation and management.
Preparation and implementation of trial plans, both in laboratories and in the field.
Processing results and various forms of dissemination.
Required qualifications
Higher education (primarily PhD or equivalent scientific competence) in biology, molecular biology, veterinary medicine, or fish health.
Expertise within the field of aquaculture.
Applicants must be able to speak and write in Norwegian and be proficient in oral and written English.
Knowledge and understanding of Norwegian and international funding sources.
Applicants must possess good collaboration and communication skills.
Other relevant expertise and experience
Course in laboratory animal science (for researchers) and experience with fish trials.
Knowledge of relevant fish pathogens and pathology.
Experience in student supervision.
Knowledge of fish species other than salmon.
